Five Fabulous Flowers

I was watching "Four Weddings" on TV, and it got me into the wedding mood, again, and for some reason, I started thinking of beautiful flowers. So, here are five examples of flowers I love!

1. My all-time favourite flowers are gerbera daisies. I especially love the cream-coloured ones, with the dark centre. I think they look elegant, yet a bit fun at the same time! Gerbers are great wedding flowers because they are apparently always in bloom, and thus they are not so expensive (or so I've heard). They also come in a variety of different colours, which is always nice! Proflower.com says that gerbera daisies mean "innocence and purity, and daisies are also a classic symbol of beauty. However, the gerbera variety holds an added meaning of cheerfulness, which stems from the assortment of colors available."


2. Tulips! According to proflowers.com, "the meaning of tulips is generally perfect love. Like many flowers, different colors of tulips also often carry their own significance. Red tulips are most strongly associated with true love, while purple symbolizes royalty. The meaning of yellow tulips has evolved somewhat, from once representing hopeless love to now being a common expression for cheerful thoughts and sunshine. White tulips are used to claim worthiness or to send a message of forgiveness. Variegated tulips, once among the most popular varieties due to their striking color patterns, represent beautiful eyes." My favourite, though, is what easyflowers.com says of the meaning of yellow tulips: "there's sunshine in your smile." :)

3. Stephanotis. This is a fantastic wedding flower. Know why? Because its meaning is marital happiness! Perfect, isn't it? And I just love how pure and fresh these flowers look. I have also heard that the second meaning of stephanotis is a desire to travel... Hmm, honeymoon, anyone? Hehe.


4. Hydrangea. According to teleflora.com, "there remains some debate over the hydrangea’s symbolism – with some connecting it to vanity and boastfulness (perhaps reflecting its abundance of petals and lavish, rounded shape) and others suggesting that a bouquet of hydrangea expresses the giver’s gratefulness for the recipient’s understanding. Still others suggest it represents anything that’s sincerely heartfelt." I think they are a beautiful flower, though - very elegant and simple. Lovely!

5. Chrysanthemum. Teleflower.com says that, "chrysanthemums symbolize optimism and joy." It goes on and explains, that, as "a symbol of the sun, the Japanese consider the orderly unfolding of the chrysanthemum’s petals to represent perfection, and Confucius once suggested they be used as an object of meditation. It’s said that a single petal of this celebrated flower placed at the bottom of a wine glass will encourage a long and healthy life." Interesting, non?

I really love this dress. I think it's the kind of dress I'd like to eventually get married in. I love the flowy-ness and the lace, and even the colour I don't mind. Just a very pretty dress. ;)

I also love these flowers. Calla lillies are one of my favourite flowers, and I love them in this bouquet with the white roses. Stunning.

Flower Power

Aren't these pretty? Flowers add such a nice touch to the wedding - but who knew they were so expensive? Bouquets can cost hundreds of dollars... And I don't really understand why. I mean, it's not like you'll be able to keep it for years to come (unless you dry them. But even then, it's not the same). And then, don't forget the bridesmaid bouquets, the boutonnieres for the groom and his groomsmen, the centrepieces for the tables at the reception, and any other decorations involving flowers. It makes me want to grow my own flowers and become an expert flower arranger!!! :P

Aren't these lovely? They're called stephanotis flowers. I heart them! They're so sweet. And guess what they mean! "Marital happiness!" Isn't that perfect for a wedding? I think when I get married some stephanotis flowers are going to be in my bouquet, next to the gerbera daisies!

I am in love with these flowers!

Aren't they neat? There's just something about them that I really like; they're modern yet classy, fresh and bold, yet feminin and soft... I just really love them! They're called gerbera daisies, and apparently they're pretty easy to work with and fairly cheap because they bloom pretty much all year. Also, as part of the daisy family (and related to sunflowers), they mean "innocence and affection." Isn't that a sweet meaning? Gerbera daisies also come in a variety of colours, as you can see below, so they can easily be encorporated into your wedding colours!

I think these are my new favourite flower. (And I think I just found my wedding flower, for my long-distant-far-off wedding! Hehe.)

Ew, You Stink! Here, Have Some Flowers!

You know how earlier I was pondering the existance of the flower bouquet? Well I was reading on Wikipedia that

A wedding bouquet of flowers or roses is an idea that was brought up years ago and then became a tradition. In times of royal class, the upper class were the fortunate ones to have bathtubs in their homes. Even with the honor of having the bath, they rarely used them. The Lower class was unable to afford this necessity, bathing was not part of the routine, and obtaining bad odor was common. When an upper class bride walked down the aisle, she was required to hold a bouquet of roses or flowers to prevent body odor from spreading.

Bouquet Toss...

Ah, the wonderful bouquet toss. Would you toss your bouquet away? Or would you make it a different bouquet, and then keep your own bouquet to dry and have forever? My mom didn't keep her bouquet, but she did keep her flower crown, and she still has it, strung around a lamp in her bedroom. It's all shrivelled up, but it's still really cute. I don't know if I could throw my bouquet away. Perhaps? Maybe I'll have a mock-up one to throw...

Though, if you really think about it, what's the point of a bouquet? Where did the tradition come from?
Hmm... I might just research it sometime and tell you all of my findings!
